Pedalite

Are the Lights bright enough?

The light units used in the Baglite and Anklelite products are very unique and very effective. It is important to understand how they work in different light.

See-me Lights

The two V shaped grooves down each side, frosting at the ends and striations vertically down the lens work in almost exactly the same way when light is released as when it is being captured.  First, please consider what a light, such as an Anklelite/Armlite or Baglite is for, it is a light to be seen by at any time that is necessary.  There is a difference between lights to "see-by" and "see-me" lights which are lights to be "seen-by", Pedalite lights are "see-me" lights, lights to be "seen-by".

There are plenty of lights that will try to cast a tiny beam of light into the distance in one direction.  Pedalite lights are not one of these lights and are designed to provide a floodlight effect, flooding light out in all directions to that people using the lights are seen.

The floodlight effect (improved by the V grooves forcing light out through 360 degrees) in flashing light mode means that users of the Baglite and Anklelite will be seen from long distances away and in any quality of light.

In the Dark

If you turn on the lights in a dark place (if you want to test this try an under stair cupboard or store room with the light off) then the lens bounces all the light and you get a very strong FLOODLIGHT effect.  It is so good in the dark that there are bicycle couriers that tell us they use Baglite to read their instructions and maps by. This floodlight effect also means that, when in the flashing mode,  the units can be seen from 1km away when it is dark.  The images here give a good example of the amount of light that the Anklelite/Armlite and Baglite products produce.

In Daylight

If it is a nice bright day or you are in a well lit room then if you turn on Anklelite/Armlite or Baglite, holding it in your hand about 1 or 2 feet from your face then you will not see much strong light coming from them.  In fact, the lights will look fairly poor.  However, you do not need people to see you when they are 1 to 2 feet from you, they should already be able to see you and if they are in a car, at this distance, it is too late.

However, now repeat the process in the same light but place the Anklelite/Armlite or Baglite 10 or 20 metres away from you.  This time you will see a bright floodlight as the light is diffused through the lens and floods out to catch the eye in all directions.

This is one of the most important features of the light units and demonstrates the value of the products in all levels of light.

But don't just take our word for it.....

FACT 75% of accidents happen at, or near, a road junction (Source RoSPA) where cycles need to be seen from the side.
