Evans Cycles Now Selling Pedalite 360 Degree Pedal Lights

• The ideal Christmas gift for safety conscious cyclists

• Retailing at £34.99

22 November 2007 - Evans Cycles, the UK’s largest independent bike retailer is now stocking the award-winning Pedalite 360 degree pedal lights in its retail stores and through its online e-commerce website shop at www.evanscycles.com.

Proving incredibly popular with cyclists this year, Pedalite Pedals are the unique battery-free pedal lights for bicycles. They make cyclists more visible to motorists day and night from any angle, which is vital as 75% of cycling accidents in the UK happen at, or near, a road junction [Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, RoSPA], where cycles need to be seen from the side.

Pedalite pedals help cyclists create their own virtual cycle lane as motorists naturally give cyclists with Pedalite pedals a wider berth and distance, increasing their safety. As soon as cyclists start pedaling, the pedals uniquely harvest and store a small amount of energy so the lights continue to flash when the cyclist is freewheeling or has stopped at a road junction.

Evans Cycles customers are now able to purchase Pedalite Pedal lights at the recommended retail price of £34.99 per pair in time for Christmas.

Dubbed a ‘fantastic product’ by Road Cycling UK and endorsed by, amongst others, former World and European track champion Tony Doyle, MBE, the award winning battery-free lighting is uniquely powered by the kinetic energy but does not take the energy from cyclists in the way that hub dynamos do.

Mark Smith, Director at Evans Cycles said, “We were really impressed by this highly innovative and environmentally friendly “green” lighting product. We are very pleased that Pedalites are now on sale in our stores and believe the product will greatly enhance the safety of our customers during the winter months. We think it will be a really popular product particularly in the busy run up to Christmas.”

Pedalite pedals enhance cycling safety as motorists can clearly see bikes fitted with Pedalites from up to 1km away, from any angle, even the side. In addition, they are easy to fit and require no maintenance.

Tony Doyle, MBE and former World Champion cyclist commented, “Bikes fitted with Pedalite 360 degree pedal lights seem wider to motorists so cars tend to give bikes fitted with Pedalites a wider berth. This decreases the chances of accidents as cars or lorries pass at speed. I am long standing safety campaigner and I truly believe that Pedalites is a ‘must have’ safety product for cyclists.”

Pedalite pedals have excellent ‘green’ credentials and will appeal to those who are environmentally conscious. Globally 15 billion batteries are thrown away each year; in the UK alone that is over 20,000 tonnes of batteries. Pedalite pedals are protecting the environment by eliminating batteries and are always on to help protect cyclists, even the products packaging is recycled cardboard.

Simon Theobald, Managing Director of Pedalite said, “Evans Cycles is an award-winning independent cycle shop and we are delighted that it will be offering its customers Pedalite products. We hope that it will enhance its strong portfolio of lighting products and be a hit with customers. We are very grateful to Evans for its support during the launch of the second generation Pedalite Pedal lights and are confident of continuing a long lasting and successful partnership.”

About Pedalite International

Pedalite International Ltd offers unique battery-free pedal lights that harvest and store the energy that a cyclist uses enabling the lights to stay on for up to five minutes after the pedalling stops such as when freewheeling or waiting at a junction.

Now used by thousands of cyclists in over 22 countries, Pedalite 360 degree pedal lights help to protect the cyclist with always on essential side lighting, protect the environment by eliminating highly caustic battery waste and save money by using the kinetic energy generated by turning the pedals rather than requiring batteries to be purchased over and over again.

In July 2007 Pedalite was acquired by the Mpower1 Group of companies (www.mpower1.com); a major business development organisation, which has increased investment, accelerated product development, attracted celebrity endorsement for Pedalite products, initiated a major marketing campaign and underwritten the future of Pedalite.

Tony Doyle MBE, twice World Pursuit Champion and four times European Track Champion is an ambassador and spokesperson for Pedalite International Ltd. Tony will be promoting the pedal lights at exhibitions, cycling shows and through cycling clubs, retail outlets and in schools throughout the UK, highlighting the part they play in cycling safety. As spokesperson, Tony also plays a key role in helping explain, through the media, the importance to cyclists of using Pedalite Pedals.
